You’re the good girl who was
destined to become the “perfect woman”.
Always have been.
To avoid feeling like a fraud, the Impostor Complex has us hide out in certain behaviors: procrastination, perfectionism, comparison, leaky boundaries, people-pleasing or in your case, DIMINISHMENT.
Diminishment is allll about staying low, out of the spotlight, and even, dare I say it? Dimming your own light.
I have so much more to share with you, so if you’d like to learn more, pop your email in here. I’ll share why you’ve done this (psst...it’s not all bad!), how it relates to the Impostor Complex and has been in the way of your Unshakeable Confidence and above all, what you can do to move past this so you can shine even brighter. We neeeeeed you.
And it’s the reason your best friend wants you to #SHINEUP.
Now...don’t get me wrong. Your tendency to diminish comes from an excellent place.
- Maybe your fabulous value of HUMILITY wants to be sure that you keep things on the down-low.
- Maybe you’ve been burned before by shining too brightly.
- Maybe you’ve seen other folx being burned for shining too brightly.
- Maybe your value of inclusion has you believe that other people are more worthy of the spotlight than you are.
I totally get it.
And here’s what I know:
Diminishment is a place we hide out in when we don’t want to feel like the Impostor Complex. And when we hide out there, dim our light, stay low, the paradox, of course is that we start to convince ourselves that we ARE the Impostor.
(Which, psst...isn’t possible. ACTUAL Impostors don’t feel like Impostors.)
But you know that Marianne Williamson poem, of course. About our Deepest Fear?
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented and fabulous?
(and then she goes on to say)
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
She was talking to you too, you know.
My work in the world is to have you see what I can, WE can see. The remarkable light that you are. And then to get you to speak up, step up and yes, #SHINEUP.
You can be entirely humble AND shine brightly. I promise.
Over the next couple of days, I’m going to be sharing some resources with you to help you get clearer about this habit of yours, so you can kick it and kick UP the pace of your activation. You have big things on the horizon...and we need you to lean into Unshakeable Confidence.
To start you off, here are a couple of posts I wrote about showing up...and diminishment, your go to hide-away from the Impostor Complex:
- The Sin of (Out)Shining
See you back in your inbox in a day or so.
